Marks & Percentage Converter

Turn your percentage into marks for an exam, or your marks into a percentage.

Use the right exam total

  1. Pick the direction

Percentage to marks, or marks to percentage. The maximum marks field is the same for both.

  2. Match the totals

Pair a subject percentage with that subject's maximum, or an overall percentage with the overall maximum. Mixing them changes the answer.

  3. Read the result

Marks are your percentage × the maximum ÷ 100. A decimal answer is valid.

An example

78% in an exam with 500 maximum marks.

390 out of 500

78 × 500 ÷ 100 = 390

Common questions

Why is my answer a decimal?

The calculation can give a decimal. If your percentage was already rounded, the marks are approximate, and the tool can't recover the missing precision.

Can I use a subject percentage with the overall total?

No. Both numbers must cover the same assessment, or the result won't match your marksheet.
